Will I lose the data in my uploaded file?

All the data in the file that you upload is retained when you download it back - with the geocodes appended. If you have a lot of data in the database table that has the addresses, you should export all that data to the file. When the data is geocoded, the file you are given is exactly the same as you uploaded, except with latitude and longitudes appended. You can therefore directly import this file back to the database table.

Which countries do you geocode for?

We geocode for all the countries. However, one data file can only contain records from one country. e.g. You cannot have a file with data from the United States and Australia in it. You can however have two data files - one for the US and one for Australia.
If you are unable to break the data file into multiple data files for individual countries, please email the file to us at contact@bulkgeocoder.com and we will be happy to set it up for you.

Can my data file have data from multiple countries?

You cannot upload a data file having data from multiple countries. If you have such a data file you can email the file to us at contact@bulkgeocoder.com and we will be happy to set it up for you. The geocoding will have to be done manually by us for each country and for this we charge an additional USD 100 as processing fee.

Do you offer a reverse geocoding service?

We do not currently offer a reverse-geocoding service. It is a feature we plan to add in the next release. If you are interested in this service, do drop us an email at contact@bulkgeocoder.com.

How can I be assured of the data quality of the geocodes?

You do not need to make any payment until you verify and validate the geocoded data. Once your data is geocoded, a link is emailed to you - you can verify the geocoded data here. If you are not satisfied with the data quality of the geocodes you are not obliged to pay for the service.

What does the data accuracy mean?

We provide the following level of geocoding accuracy - City, Zip, Street, Address and Building.
During the batch geocoding process each record is matched fuzzily with our existing database. Based on the matching the accuracy will reflect the following levels.

  • Building Level: If an exact address is found with a building number or a house/unit/suite number, then the accuracy is said to be at Building Level
  • Address Level: If the address is matched - but the house number does not match (or if there is no house number in the data file), then the accuracy is at address level
  • Street Level: If the street is matched but not the rest of the address, then the accuracy is at street level. Depending on the type of data provided, the Address Level and Street Level accuracy may be the same
  • Zip Code Level: If only zip codes match then it is as zip code level
  • City Level: If nothing matches other than the city, then a city center geocode is given and the match is said to have accuracy at the city level

Why am I unable to upload the file on the Get Started page?

Some of our Mac OS X customers have been facing an issue with uploading the data file. If you are unable to upload it, please send us the file (zipped if possible) at contact@bulkgeocoder.com. We will be happy to upload the file for you and set it up for geocoding.

Why do I not see an upload button on the Get Started page?

The upload functionality requires the flash player to work. If you are unable to install flash player on your computer or still have issues, please do send us the file (zipped if possible) at contact@bulkgeocoder.com. We will be happy to upload the file for you and set it up for geocoding.

My data is in an Excel file. How do I upload it?

You will need to convert your xls/xlsx files to a csv (comma separated values). This can be done from within Microsoft Excel or Open Office using the steps given below.

    Microsoft Office 2007
  • Click on the Office button in the upper left-hand corner of Excel. Select Save As and then choose Other Formats.
  • In the Save As window that will appear on your screen, choose CSV (Comma delimited) (*.csv) from the Save as type drop down field. Pick any name for your file and then click the Save button.
  • Its important to note that you can only export one spreadsheet to a CSV file at a time. If your Excel workbook contains multiple spreadsheets that you would like to export, you'll have to perform the above two steps for each of them.

    Microsoft Office XP/Vista
  • Click the Microsoft Office Button and then click Save As. The Save As dialog box appears.
  • In the Save as type box, choose the CSV (Comma delimited) format.
  • If you are running Windows Vista - In the Address bar, browse to the location where you want to save the new text file, and then click Save. If you are running Microsoft Windows XP - In the Save in box, browse to the location where you want to save the new text file, and then click Save.
  • A dialog box appears, reminding you that only the current worksheet will be saved to the new file. A second dialog box appears, reminding you that your worksheet may contain features that are not supported by text file formats. Click Yes.
  • Its important to note that you can only export one spreadsheet to a CSV file at a time. If your Excel workbook contains multiple spreadsheets that you would like to export, you'll have to perform the above two steps for each of them.

    Open Office - Calc
  • Click on File and choose Save As
  • Choose Text CSV (.csv) in the Save as type drop down.
  • In the next popup, Character Set should be "Unicode (UTF-8)", the Field Delimiter should be a comma (,) and the Text Delimiter should bes an apostrophe (").

My data cannot be converted to a csv file - What do I do?

You can email the data to us at contact@bulkgeocoder.com. We will be happy to convert it and set it up for you.

After uploading file, why are the map columns not showing up?

This would happen if the file is not in the correct format. Most common errors are using the semi colon (;) instead of a comma (,) to separate the data. You can email the data file to us at contact@bulkgeocoder.com. We would be happy to set it up for you.

Can you send me a price quote?

You can visit the Pricing page for details. Our pricing changes based on how many records for geocoding your data file contains. Please do note that there is a minimum USD 50 charge for any file uploaded.

How does the pricing work?

The pricing page shows the amount to be paid based on the number of records. The more records you geocode the lesser you pay per record.
As an example if you have 26,110 records that require geocoding. This falls in the 0.5 cents per geocode range and therefore you will be charged 26,110 x 0.005 = USD 131.
If you have 1,550,110 records you will be charged 1,550,110 x 0.004 = USD 6,200 as this falls in the lower pricing range. You only pay for the records that are geocoded.

Can I test the service before making payment?

We encourage customers to test the service first by uploading a small data file - under 100 records. Once the file is downloaded, you are sent a link to verify the data. Here you are allowed to download the first 100 records from the data file. Once you are satisfied with the data quality and format of the geocodes, you can upload the actual data file. Click Here to upload your test data file.

You can upload one test file per email address. If you would like to upload multiple test files, you can always use different email addresses for each one.

How do I make payment?

Currently we accept payment through Paypal. When the file has been processed, you are sent a link to verify the data. After verification you are taken to the paypal website to make payment. Once payment is completed you are given the link to download the geocoded data file.
